With Superbowl Sunday just around the corner, many of you may be getting ready for game day by preparing a variety of fun finger foods such as chips, dips, wings, and more. Therefore, it’s time to break out the condiments, including hummus. Why not make a lasting impression this year by creating the best hummus dip ever?

Whoever thought ground chickpeas and sesame seeds, along with fresh lemon juice, garlic, and a touch of olive oil (depending on the recipe) could taste so good and be so good for you? What was once considered an exotic health food how now become a staple among American condiments. Hummus dips have replaced fat and sodium-rich condiments such as mayonnaise and ranch dressings as Americans have become more health conscious.

However, just because hummus dips are healthy, doesn’t mean you have to compromise on flavor. There are a variety of hummus spread recipes that are full of flavor, easy to make, and are sure to taste better than the next guy’s.

There are the standard hummus spread recipes such as roasted garlic hummus dip or roasted red pepper, but what about kicking it up a notch? Consider bold hummus spread recipes such as honey habanero, sweet and spicy sriracha, barbecue bacon, or even olive tapenade.

You can choose to buy canned chick peas or fresh peas that need to be boiled. Starting with fresh chickpeas may give you more of a nutty flavor, which is a plus. Then combine all ingredients for the base in a food processor and voila, hummus!

Now it’s time to add more flavor. You can choose to add raw, fresh ingredients or saute the ingredients to bring out even more flavor. Crumbled bacon, clue cheese, fresh jalapenos or chopped herbs all make great toppings, especially if you’re in a hurry.
